2023 Orem City Hall Redevelopment: A Modern and Sustainable Approach
Orem city is embarking on an ambitious project to revamp the City Hall building, aiming to create a modern and sustainable structure that reflects the area's natural beauty and heritage. The redesigned building, spanning approximately 74,000 square feet, will stand three stories tall and feature an array of materials, including rocks, bricks, glass, and steel, with various brown and cream tones.
One striking feature of the exterior will be a large, contemporary outdoor clock, adding a touch of elegance and functionality to the building's façade. To maintain a strong connection with the region's roots, the landscaping around the structure will be adorned with indigenous plants and grasses, while all four sides of the building will be lined with trees, giving a nod to the local orchards.
The interior design also takes into account the city's current and future needs. There will be two third-floor balconies; one reserved for the mayor's office and the other on the east side for flexible use. This second balcony can easily be converted into extra rooms if the need arises.
The main entrances will be located on the north and south sides of the building, welcoming visitors into a spacious, open, and modern-looking lobby. Towards the north end, an outdoor plaza will feature a canopy and a vibrant gathering space, serving as an inviting area for community members to dine and socialize between City Hall and the library hall.
Brenn Bybee, acting city manager, expressed excitement about the project, stating that the investment will offer significant benefits, making it a prudent use of resources. The budget for the undertaking is set at $28 million, with a strong belief from both Method and Layton, the developers, that they can efficiently stay within this financial plan without the need for additional funding.
The City Hall's interiors will boast several essential spaces, including the council chambers designed to accommodate up to 270 spectators. For more intimate gatherings, the room can be divided to create a smaller area. Additionally, there will be a council room, conference room, and a versatile training room that can serve as an emergency center when required.
Overall, the City Hall redevelopment project showcases a forward-thinking approach, blending modern aesthetics with sustainability, and honoring the local heritage, providing the community with a versatile and functional space for generations to come.
